Overview

Gosainkunda Lake Trek with Treklanders Adventures leads to an exciting thrill towards the mountainous destination around Central Langtang Himal. The nearest Himalayan range from Kathmandu valley, at an aerial distance of 44 km / 27 miles. Drive leads about 6 hours covering 122 km / 57.8 miles to Syabrubesi, starting point of the trek. From Kathmandu an interesting overland journey on the high winding road to Dhunche, the headquarters town of Rasuwa district. As well as the Langtang National Park entry point, where Gosainkunda and the whole Langtang Himal range are located.

Apart from the normal straight route to Gosainkunda, ours is slightly different taking a day longer. This allows trekkers to soak more into local cultures, as well as for acclimatization purposes. Ending the long scenic drive at Syabrubesi, the walk starts heading high hills of Thulo Syabru, an interesting Tamang village. Thulo or Upper Syabru is perched on a high ridge facing grand views of the Ganesh and Langtang Himal range. The adventure continues heading higher into the dense forest of beautiful rhododendron and pine tree lines to Sing Gompa. 

The main gateway to our destination to Gosainkunda and beyond to Helambu region, a nice small settlement with an old monastery. From Sing Gompa onwards to a higher elevation as the climb proceeds through lovely forest and then reaches a wide exposed ridge. Where tree lines drop for short rhododendron and juniper bushes facing a tremendous panorama of Western and Central Himalayan peaks.

Overlooking grand views of Annapurna, Manaslu, and Ganesh with Langtang Himal Mountain range, as the climb reaches the top of Laurabinaya. A high ridge is well the highest point of the trek at above near 4,500 m / 14, 763 ft. The trail then follows down to Bhairab Kund to reach Gosainkunda our main highlight. 

Gosainkunda a glacial lake, is regarded as the most sacred pilgrimage spot in all Himalayas, the lake, is placed on a basin. Enclosed by rocky ridges, and high cliffs with snow-capped peaks, the lake often gets frozen in early spring and late autumn. 

In the area around Gosainkunda, in early times there were 108 ponds and large lakes at present more than half a dozen exist. Likewise Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, Surya Kunda, and Saraswati, Naga Kunda, with the main Gosainkunda lakes. The calm serene Gosainkunda Lake is worshiped by the Hindus with few Buddhist Devotees on special occasions. Which annually takes place in August, according to the Hindu religious calendar, thousands of Hindus throng for worship and prayers. A small shrine of Lord Shiva is located on the lake shore, the creator of the lakes around Gosainkunda.  

After a wonderful visit to Gosainkunda around its pristine surroundings, walk down to Sing Gompa. Then on an alternative route to reach Dhunche town for the last overnight halt within Gosainkunda and Langtang Himal region.

A scenic drive brings you to the hustle, bustle city of Kathmandu, after a marvelous adventure and experience on Gosainkunda Lake Trek. 

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On first arrival at Kathmandu-Nepal international airport, our staff and guide will receive with traditional welcome. A short drive to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu city, on checking into your nice rooms. After getting refreshed from the jet-lag, join at the hotel lobby and at meeting room for trek briefing provided by our guide or leader. Information about the hotel, lodge on treks with full details of trekking trails, food and accommodation on treks. As well with do’s and don’ts with welcome group dinner in an authentic Nepali restaurants with local cultural program along with Nepali meals.


Day 2 : Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Morning after breakfast, the city / cultural guide will meet you at the hotel for tour around Kathmandu World Heritage Sites. As well visiting interesting places of steeped with history and culture. After the tour back at the hotel, preparation for Gosainkunda Lake Trekking. 


Day 3 : Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Early morning an exciting drive on 138 k.m / 86 miles to Syabrubesi town to start Gosainkunda Lake Trek. The road follows on winding ups past Nuwakott district reaching Rasuwa, around Langtang Himal range. Drive leads to main town at Dhunche, the headquarters of the Rasuwa district. As well the entrance of Langtang National Park, the drive heads downhill on winding road to Syabrubesi for overnight stop. 


Day 4 : Trek to Thulo / Upper Syabru 2, 118 m-04 hrs.

Starting the trek, which is shorter being the first day walks of the adventure. The trail from Syabrubesi diverts from the main route of Langtang Valley, as climb leads to a near high ridge. Leaving the outskirt of Syabrubesi village and town, heading north through farm areas of neat cultivated terraces. Few gradual path, and then heads a steep up for an hour till the top of a ridge is reached. Where a nice farm village Thulo or Upper Syabru located high above from the main road of Syabrubesi.

At Thulo Syabru for lunch and overnight stop in the comfort of a nice simple lodge. Afternoon take a short walk to the monastery, perched above the village, and enjoy relaxing moment facing the surrounding scenery. 


Day 5 : Trek to Sing Gompa 3, 254 m - 05 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight in Thulo Syabru, walk leads north from the village monastery, with steep uphill climb. Entering a dense forest of rhododendron and pines, then reach Phoprang Danda. Enjoy the glorious views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu as far as Annapurna in the far west. Having time for lunch, walk continues to ascent through blue pine forest to Sing Gompa. Also known as Chandanbari a small nice settlement with few good lodge and an old monastery.

After checking into a lovely rooms, with time for short stroll to a small yak cheese 


Day 6 : Trek to Gosainkunda 4, 380 m / 14620 feet - 05 hrs.

Morning from Sing Gompa, starts with a steep climb, facing grand vista of Langtang Himal range to the north. Includes the Ganesh-Himal, Manaslu and peaks of Annapurna range towards far northwest. The first part of the walk is on gradual winding path through oak, pine, and rhododendron forest. Then reaching an open areas on leaving the tree lines, a small place with a tea houses. 

Enjoy the brief break having refreshments along with beautiful surrounding scenery. Ascend leads further to Laurabinaya high ridge, a place where pilgrimage leaves their walking sticks. Pilgrims visit to Gosainkunda during the full moon in August to pay homage and take a ritual bath. Where they abandon their walking sticks as they return down to Dhunche. After a half-hour descent, you'll come across the first ponds Saraswati and Bhairab Kunda. From there, after a short climb, spend your night at Gosainkunda small simple lodge, above the holy lake.


Day 7 : Rest and free day at Gosainkunda for short hike and worship.

Enjoy the free day at leisure, taking a short hike and explore the surrounding  scenic rocky hills. As well visiting to near other holy glacial lakes of Bhairab, Saraswati Kund / ponds. For energetic people can climb above the lake east wardclose to the pass of Gosainkunda-La or Laurabinaya East. Where Surya a small pond located, amidst beautiful scenery of surrounding high snow-capped peaks. 


Day 8 : Trek down to Sing Gompa-04 hrs.

From Gosainkunda a slow up to Laurabinaya high ridge, and then on long downhill to reach the tall tree lines. As walk follows through dense forest with views of Langtang-Ri and Langtang Lirung peaks in the north. The trail then slowly leads to short descent reaching overnight stop in Sing Gompa.


Day 9 : Trek to Dhunche Town 1, 950 m and transfer to lodge-05 hrs.

From Sing Gompa with morning glorious views of Western and Central Himalayas, walk leads to long descent towards Dhunche Town. The trail follows down through dense lovely tall tree lines reaching a bridge over a small stream.

Possible stop for refreshing drinks and lunch in a small tea-house, situated near the bridge. Walk from here leads to the main motorable road, with short ups to reach the large town at Dhunche. Enjoy the last overnight around Rasuwa district and Langtang Himal areas.


Day 10 : Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

After a wonderful time at Gosiankund with last overnight on the hills of Langtang Himal. Morning drive on the scenic and exciting highway to Kathmandu, drive leads beyond Dhunche, Ramche towns and near Trisuli Bazaar. On reaching the city in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotels. Rest of the day at leisure after an enjoyable, marvelous trek to Langtang Valley.


Day 11 : Free day as contingency for individual activities.

Enjoy an extra day in Kathmandu with individual activities or get into shopping spree. Interested people can join for another interesting tour of other cities of Kathmandu valley. Sightseeing around Patan / Lalitpur or the famous Bhaktapur city Durbar Square, worth a visit.


Day 12 : International departure for homeward bound.

After an enjoyable and most mesmerizing time in Nepal, around the Himalayas on Gosainkunda Lake Trek. As time for departure, our staff transfer you to international airport for flight homeward bound or to next port of call.
