Overview

Langtang Valley Trek is the closest mountain destination to the capital Kathmandu. Approx. 202 km / 125 miles to the starting point of the trek at the small town of Syabrubesi. The Langtang Himal is located in the district of Rasuwa close to massif Ganesh and the Langtang Himal range. As well as Rasuwagadhi the frontier post that borders Nepal and Tibet / China. 

Which is also an old Trans-Himalaya Salt Trade Route between the two countries, where trade still exists. From Syabrubesi the Langtang Valley Trek begins and ends, covering a distance of 77 km. / 48 miles both ways. Includes a side hike to the famous scenic hills of Kyanjin-Ri, with another 8 km. / 5 miles, extra for the Tserko-Ri climb.  
Langtang Valley Trek is one of the most popular, visited trekking destinations after Annapurna and Everest region. Due to its accessibility and exciting scenic walks, without the hassle or problem of catching high altitude sickness.

The trek leads to high hills and deep river gorges, where elevation gains at a gradual pace. Makes this adventure possible for all types of people, and age groups, the finest country walks. As well as local culture with scenic views, where a trail leads to traditional villages adorned with old glorious and heritage.

Langtang valley trek leads to steep ups and follows the river upstream into a densely forested path. Covered in tall tree lines of rhododendron, pines, firs, and bamboo, then reach an open wide valley of Langtang Himal. Where beautiful settlement Kyanjin Gompa is located, the highest overnight stop of the adventure, enclosed by an array of towering peaks. Situated on the laps of Langtang-Ri 7,205 m / 23,638 feet and Langtang Lirung 7,234 m / 23,734 feet high.

At Kyanjin Gompa, have a free rest day to explore its scenic picturesque valley and high ridges. Climb to Kyanjin-Ri 4, 773 m / 15, 655 feet or further higher at Tserko-Ri 5,033 m / 16,512 feet. These two high viewpoints offer a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding snow peaks of the Langtang Himal range. As far towards the mountain in Tibet, across the border bounded by the Central Himal range of Ganesh and Langtang Himal. After an enjoyable, marvelous time at Kyanjin Gompa around scenic Langtang Valley, return journey downhill on the same exciting trail. Then finally ending the wonderful Langtang Valley Trek at Syabrubesi for the last overnight halt, around the hills of Langtang Himal.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On first arrival at Kathmandu-Nepal international airport, our staff and guide will receive with traditional welcome. A short drive to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu city, on checking into your nice rooms. After getting refreshed from the jet-lag, join at the hotel lobby and at meeting room for trek briefing provided by our guide or leader. Information about the hotel, lodge on treks with full details of trekking trails, food and accommodation on treks. As well with do’s and don’ts with welcome group dinner in an authentic Nepali restaurants with local cultural program along with Nepali meals.


Day 2 : Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.

Morning after breakfast, the city / cultural guide will meet you at the hotel for tour around Kathmandu World Heritage Sites. As well visiting interesting places of steeped with history and culture. After the tour back at the hotel, preparation for 3Langtang Valley Trekking 


Day 3 : Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Early morning an exciting drive on 138 k.m / 86 miles to Syabrubesi town to start Langtang Valley Trek. The road follows on winding ups past Nuwakott district reaching Rasuwa, around Langtang Himal range. Drive leads to main town at Dhunche, the headquarters of the Rasuwa district. As well the entrance of Langtang National Park, the drive heads downhill on winding road to Syabrubesi for overnight stop. 


Day 4 : Trek to Lama Hotel 2,350 m - 06 hrs.

Starting the first day walk of the adventure, the trail crosses over Bhote Koshi River. Which flows from across the border of Tibet and Langtang Himal range. The walk follows to gradual climb through sub-tropical forests coming across the trail from Syabru Besi. The climb continues through oak, rhododendron and bamboo forest, slowly the trek completes reaching Lama Hotel and transfer into a nice cozy lodge. Lama Hotel, the first hotel / Tea-House within a river gorge amidst dense forest, hence the name tagged as Lama Hotel for this small settlement.


Day 5 : Trek to Mundu 3,550 m. / 11,646 feet- 06 hrs.

From here onwards into lovely dense tree lines of firs, hemlocks, pines and rhododendron. Following the river upstream, with occasional glimpse of Langtang Lirung between the tree lines. Reaching a nice clearing at Ghora Tabela, as altitude gains above 3,000 m / 9,842 feet. At one time was a Tibetan re-settlement, but at present a Nepal Army post act as warden of the national park. Possible lunch stop in a small lodge restaurants, afternoon walk continues to climb gently. As the valley widens, passing few temporary settlements of cattle herders, brings their livestock for grazing in the pastures.

As walk progresses reaching an area where flourishing Langtang village was located, at present a somber reminder. Where a big earthquake of 2015 that took place around Nepal Mid-East and West, the village was devastated. 

At present, it is filled with a rocks and rubbles, one can spare a thought for the Nepalese and trekkers. Who lost their life and this trek to Langtang Valley will help and support the survivors. Slowly the areas is coming back to normal, the walk heads little further on to reach overnight stop in Mundu. A newly built settlement, with some old houses here are a reminder of what the villages once looked like in this valley. Most of the lodges and homes in this area are now built in a more modern types of houses serving as lodge and guest houses.


Day 6 : Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,800 m / 12, 467 feet- 04 hrs.

Today a short walk from Mundu towards our main highlight of the adventure, morning walks, leads to climb gradually. Entering the yak pastures as the valley opens wide facing extensive views of snow-capped peaks. After crossing several small streams and moraines, finally ending the morning walks reaches Kyanjin.

A nice and lovely settlements where all houses and cottages serves as a lodge for trekkers. Kyanjin with a small monastery / Gompa, and a cheese factory enjoy the views as you enjoy lunch. Staying in Kyanjin for two overnights, with rooms facing beautiful mountain scenery.


Day 7 : Rest-Day for exploration and hike to view points.

Enjoy the lovely rest day and explore around Kyanjin settlement and tour of the small monastery. An options for scenic hike to a high ridge of Kyanjin-Ri or further up to Tserko-Ri. For best panorama of towering massif snow-capped peaks that surrounds the Langtang Valley. Overlooking grand vista of Ghengu Liru (Langtang II 6,571 m / 21,560 feet), Langtang Lirung (7,425 m / 23,765 feet).

Includes Kimshun (6,745 m / 22,137 feet) with Shalbachum (6,918 m / 22, 699 feet) and towards south. Views of Chimsedang high ridge with Naya-Kanga 5,846 m / Ganjala Himal with Gangchenpo and Tillman’s beautiful Fluted Peak. 

The view extends towards Jugal Himal in the east, and ending at Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m / 22,854 feet), includes views of high peaks across the border of Tibet. 

Afternoon at leisure after a great hike to scenic view-point high ridges, enjoy rest of day relaxing and marveling the mountain views.


Day 8 : Trek to Lama Hotel - 06 hrs.

From Kyanjin back to Lama Hotel, as the return journey retrace the same interesting route. Following the Langtang Khola to Mundu village and on to Ghora Tabela. The descent continues to Lama Hotel for overnight stop with the sound of a raging river flow.


Day 9 : Trek to Syabrubesi - 06 hrs.

Leaving the high hills, valley and gorges a pleasant downhill walk through forest reaching a Riverside. As last day trekking continues with long descent to Syabrubesi for last overnight around Rasuwa and Langtang region. 

For energetic people can take a side hike, walking on spectacular route from Rimche via Sherpa Gaon to Syabrubesi; it will take long hours of trek, but offers stunning detour.


Day 10 : Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

After a wonderful time around Langtang Valley with last overnight on the hills of Langtang Himal. Morning drive on the scenic and exciting highway to Kathmandu, driving past Dhunche, Ramche towns and near Trisuli Bazaar. On reaching the city at Kathmandu, transfer to your hotels. Rest of the day at leisure after an enjoyable, marvelous trek to Langtang Valley.


Day 11 : Free day as contingency for individual activities.

Enjoy an extra day in Kathmandu with individual activities or get into shopping spree. Interested people can join for another interesting tour of other cities of Kathmandu valley. Sightseeing around Patan / Lalitpur or the famous Bhaktapur city Durbar Square, worth a visit.


Day 12 : International departure for homeward bound.

After an enjoyable and most mesmerizing time in Nepal, around the Himalayas on Langtang Valley Trek. As time for departure, our staff transfer you to international airport for flight homeward bound or to next port of call.
