The
day hike is a refreshing walk of some hours involving ups and down on dirt tracks, hiking amidst a lovely forest. The green woods covered in tall trees of rhododendron, blue pine, and oaks, make the hiking delightful.
The hike begins in the quaint and sleepy town of Changunarayan, which houses the oldest and most impressive temple in the country.
From Changunarayan after a short interesting tour around the temple premises, then starting the
hike to Nagarkot.
The trail follows above the old town of Changunarayan, entering a lush green forest and reaching the village of Telkot. Where climb starts through several farms and villages with terraced fields of crops, as uphill continues until
Nagarkot is reached.
Enjoy the comfort of nice hotels or mountain resorts facing tremendous views of rolling hills. Evening facing glorious sunset views that reflects with golden color over the white high
peaks of the Himalayas.
Next, early morning, rise to catch the striking sunrise from a view tower, located just above the hotel. After a grandeur
panorama of the Himalayan chain of peaks of Ganesh,
Langtang, and Jugal Himal range. The view extends as far as
Everest on the Far East horizon, enjoy the breakfast with a backdrop of the Himalayas. After breakfast on the road to

Trip Itinerary
Day 1 : Drive to Telkot and hike to Nagarkot
From early 7 a.m. having breakfast, a short drive of more than an hour to cover a distance; of 19 km or approx. 12 miles. The drive leads on the main eastern highway, then the drive diverts on reaching the outskirt of Bhaktapur city.
Heading on a winding narrow road to a nice old village with a famous old temple of Changunarayan. Having time for a short refreshing break, then start the hike heading northeast, the walk follows a forested path. Leading away from the main motorable road in tranquil surroundings of tall dense tree lines. Reaching the point where motor roads and walking trails branch off from the small farm village of Tilkot.
Walk leads to climbing reaching a small lovely place with temples and shrines of the Hindu god Shiva. From here onwards on winding ups to reach a road-head at Nagarkot town, where all good hotels and lodges are located.
Finally reaching the highest point of Nagarkot hill at 2,175 m high, on completing the wonderful day hike. Transfer into a nice hotel or lodge facing views of snow-capped peaks of the Central and Mid-Western Himalayas.
Afternoon browses around the streets of Nagarkot town lined with shops and restaurants amidst tall trees of rhododendron and pine trees. Enjoy the sunsets over arrays of peaks from the hotel balcony or walk up to the view tower.
The next day, rise in the early morning, for stunning sunrise reflecting over Himalayan peaks facing views as far as Everest towards the Far East.
Having breakfast then depart from the hotel at Nagarkot for a few hour drive back to Kathmandu, after glorious views and refreshing time on Nagarkot Hill Hiking.
