Momo is definitely one dish that won the hearts of Nepal. They are available everywhere, from street vendors, family kitchens, and even in mountain tea houses – these are tiny parcels of happiness filled with love and taste. We, at the Authentic Momo Cooking Class in the lively streets of Thamel, where the scent of spices fills the air and the breathing of Kathmandu never stops, welcome you to be our part and unravel the secret of how these simple dumplings become so special.
The thing here is not your usual cooking class — it’s a fully immersive cultural experience. Once you get in, the atmosphere itself resembles a Nepali family and you are given a feeling that you are one of them. We’ll definitely kick off the real fun — preparing momos from the beginning– after having a cup of masala tea, talking casually and laughing. You will be involved in dough kneading, making chicken or vegetable fillings, and doing the folding of momos like the Nepali people do — round, half-moon, or nicely pleated.
What if you have never been to a kitchen? Our instructors are ever ready, in good moods, and cannot wait to reveal their kitchen tricks to you. They demonstrate the little things that make every momo unique to you — the application of mustard oil, the use of Timur (Nepali Sichuan pepper), and most importantly, the harmony of tastes in every bite.
Moreover, why not? Print, steaming, and devouring your momos — steaming hot, juicy, and with flavor exploding in the mouth — will be your part. Whether you are a solo traveler, a couple looking for a unique activity, or a group of friends exploring Nepali culture, this class will make you have good food, pleasant memories, and real interaction.
Beyond the recipe, this experience is about sharing the laughs, stories, and flavors. It focuses on the concept of slowing down and savoring the moment — one momo at a time.

Ingredients You’ll Use in Class
For the dough, you will be provided with all-purpose flour, a pinch of salt, and just enough warm water to make it soft and smooth.
The fillings will be made from either minced chicken or fresh seasonal vegetables, and the mixture will be completed with onion, spring onion, garlic, ginger, and coriander. To bring out the rich Nepali flavour, you will be required to add a mix of Timur, mustard oil, and some spices such as cumin, coriander powder, turmeric, and chili flakes, if you like.
For the famous achar (dipping sauce), you will roast tomatoes, grind sesame seeds, and then mix them with garlic, dried chili, coriander, and a little Timur to give it the real authentic taste.
Yes, and the session is started with our signature welcome masala tea which is really the taste of Nepali warmth.
Please kindly let us know if you are vegetarian or vegan, so we can make the necessary meal arrangements for you.
