Larkya La Pass, which is situated at 5,106 meters (16,752 feet), not only marks the highest elevation point of Manaslu Circuit Trek but also stands among the most challenging mountain pass crossings in Nepal trekking. Walking up from Larkya Phedi, one has to leave the camp even before the break of dawn (generally 3-4 AM) so that one can have the daylight at the peak and also have time to come down to Bimthang before it snows/gets windy. The pass entails 7-10 hours of hard walking in cold and potentially icy situations. Those going on the trek must have their body fully acclimatized, must have a good level of fitness, and must wear layers of insulation with waterproofing. You will need a total of three permits: Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) for the Manaslu restricted zone, and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) for the last part of the route, which leads to the Annapurna region near Dharapani. The Manaslu region is much more isolated than the areas of Everest or Annapurna. Communication through the mobile phone network is only available in a few major villages. Besides, the teahouse facilities are rather basic, with simple food menus and shared facilities being the norm, mostly at higher altitudes. There are fewer medical posts and evacuation options, which makes it necessary to have good travel insurance with coverage of helicopter evacuation.
